Tolkning
Hos de fleste pasientene (ca. 70 %) oppstår nevrologiske symptomer før kreftdiagnosen blir stilt. Svulsten er vanligvis liten. Under 1 % av kreftpasientene får PNS (paraneoplastiske nevrologiske syndromer) og de hyppigste kreftformene forekommer i lunger, bryst, thymus og genitalia.
PNS kan forekomme uten onkonevronale antistoffer og antistoffer kan bli påvist hos pasienter uten nevrologiske symptomer. Flere PNS antistoffer kan forekomme hos samme pasient og kan predikere kreft (Ref. 4).
